Huron IRB Exchange Overview
Huron IRB Exchange is a cloud service for enabling secure data exchange between institutions acting as the sIRB (single IRB of record) and participating sites on the same multi-site research study.
In a common scenario, the sIRB institution initiates the multi-site study and transfers the study data to the IRB Exchange. The sites invited to participate in the study download the study data to their local systems. Then they upload their local site data related to the study to the IRB Exchange. The sIRB downloads the site data for review.
The IRB Exchange service can be adopted by the institution's existing IRB system through the use of its robust programming interfaces. For institutions using the Huron IRB solution, data transfer to and from the IRB Exchange is built into the multi-site study workflow (in version 8.1 and later), but each institution must set up an IRB Exchange account to take advantage of it.
The IRB Exchange offers a test site so an institution can connect to it from its staging site to test the service and practice using the IRB Exchange. When ready, the institution's production site can be connected to the IRB Exchange's production site to begin exchanging real data.
